I’ve been thinking about this idea for a while now: a flippable toy crochet pattern. A stuffed toy that can be turned into a cat or a dog. After making up different designs, frogging and more designing, I came up with this flippable animal. I’m happy to share this free pattern with you.

Materials
- 1 skein off-white acrylic worsted weight yarn
- 1 skein light brown acrylic worsted weight yarn
- leftover pink yarn
- stitch marker
- fiberfill
- crochet hook 3,5 mm
- 1 pair of safety eyes with eyelashes
- 1 pair of cat safety eyes 18 mm
- black safety nose 15×12 mm
- pink safety nose 18×12 mm
- 4 whiskers
- embroidery needle
Abbreviations (U.S)
- st = stitch
- ch = chain
- sl st = slip stitch
- sc = single crochet
- hdc = half double crochet
- mr = magic ring
- dec = decrease (crochet 2 stitches together)
- inc = increase (crochet 2 stitches in 1 stitch)
Attention:
This flippable toy crochet pattern is made in continuous rounds. Don’t close the rounds.

Fasten off and leave a sewing tail. Place the eyes with eyelashes between round 12 and 13. The bottom of the eyes touches the snout. Leave 7 stitches between the eyes. Place the black nose in the middle of the snout and embroider a mouth like shown in the picture. Stuff the head.

Don’t stuff the ear. Fold the tops of the ear together and close with 8 or 9 sc. Fasten off and leave a sewing tail. Crochet another ear in the same way.
Sew the ears to the sides of the head, like shown in the picture.

Fasten off and leave a sewing tail. Place the cat eyes between round 7 and 8. Leave about 5 stitches between the eyes. Place the pink nose in the middle of the snout and embroider a mouth like shown in the picture. Place two whiskers on each side of the nose. Stuff the head.

Sew the ears on the head, about 8 rounds behind the eyes. Leave about 8 stitches between the ears.
Back
You need to crochet 2 backs, one brown and one white. Use hdc for the backs.
The back is also made in continuous rounds.

Stuff the paws lightly and close with 8 or 9 sc.
Assembling
Place the white back into the brown back, with the wrong sides together.
Place the paws between the two backs, like shown in the picture. The picture tells you how many stitches there are between the paws.
5 sv (7 total) at each leg
Sew the two backs together, using the white sewing tail. The paws are sewn in at the same time. The tops of the paws will be placed between the backs.
Fasten off.
Sew the cat head on the white part of the back. Don’t sew through the brown part of the back.
Sew on the dog head tot he brown part of the back.
